Brandicoot loves making life easier for our clients, so for your benefit we have put together a few insights into Google AdWords and a general overview of how an AdWords campaign can benefit your business.
In a nutshell, AdWords are paid placements within a google search query. They are a fantastic lead generation tool and a practical way for many businesses to build awareness of their brand and drive traffic to their site. Most importantly, AdWords are designed to help you sell more of your product or service.
How do can you tell an AdWords result from an organic search result?
The first thing to notice is placement. AdWords generally appear in prominent positions along the top and right-hand side of your screen. If you look closely, you’ll notice there is a disclaimer of “Ads.” Content is another clue. They are much more promotional than organic search results and often have a “call to action” (such as ‘Call us today’ or ‘Buy Online Now’) that you don’t normally see in standard search results.
What are the benefits of AdWords?
Generate Revenue. Adwords are designed to attract people who are in “buying mode” and direct them to a website where they can purchase your product or service.
Get on the First Page. Adwords can help your brand appear on a search listing that you may not be able to rank organically for on the first page. For example, if you’re a small boutique fashion store, it is very difficult to top the major retailers in the organic search rankings for “sunglasses.” But with the right AdWords program, you can have your shop show up on the first page.
Target your Audience. You can set geographic parameters for your campaign so your ads appear across the country, or only in a few cities. You can also set other parameters to target specific keywords that direct people to specific pages on your website or have your ads show up only at certain times of the day.
Budget Control. You not only control how much to invest in AdWords as a whole, you can also set daily limits for your campaign so you won’t be surprised and have your entire budget wiped out in a day or two.
Measurable Outcomes. AdWords offers the ability to monitor how your ads are performing and if you’re getting sales from your efforts.
How is it different from Search Engine Optimization?
Think of SEO as “earned placement” and AdWords as “paid placement.” With SEO, you “earn” higher organic search results through a number of factors including the written content of your website, meta tags and other factors Google takes into consideration regarding the credibility of your site.
SEO & AdWords can complement each other. For example, your website may be targeted at the main areas of your business, and your AdWords campaign may focus on new or side products or services your business wants to promote.
How much does it cost?
This depends on a number of factors including your budget, how much competition there is for the keywords you want to buy, how many keywords you buy, and how much time you want to invest in the upfront analysis and monitoring of your campaign.
When compared with advertising in the traditional form, for example: newspapers, radio, tv etc, Adwords campaigns can out perform these for a fraction of the price and can provide immediate accountability, with clear reporting that shows the number of impressions (i.e. the number of times your ad is seen) and how many clicks your ad has received.
